About Photovoltaics

  • PVs as they are commonly known, are ‘fuelled’ by free solar energy (daylight) - the most abundant energy source on the planet.
  • PV modules, which convert the solar energy directly into electricity, are the main component of a PV System. PV modules can be placed on almost any building surface (south facing direction) which receives sunshine for most of the day. Roofs are the common location on houses but PV modules can also be placed on facades, conservatory or atrium roofs, sun shades, etc.
  • Planning permission may be required for PV installations depending on factors such as location, visual and environmental impact, but is often not necessary.
  • PV Systems have no moving parts and as a result require minimal maintenance. They generate electricity without producing emissions of greenhouse or any other gases, and its operation is virtually silent.
